Canon interview at PMA : Despite a very busy schedule Bas de Meijer has interviewed some of the exhibitors during the PMA 2008 show in Las Vegas. One of the interviewees was Richard Trestain, Digital camera product specialist of Canon. Before the Photo Marketing Association 2008 kicked off, Canon introduced a number of new digital compact camera models and one new digital SLR camera for the upcoming season. Canon have been a leading brand for years in relation to worldwide sales of digital cameras. This is not something to take for granted. To apply high technical innovations or to integrate novelties into a product at the right moment is the key to successfully sell products. Richard Trestain answers a number of questions.

Canon USA executive vice president : Canon U.S.A., Inc., announced that Tamotsu “Ted” Nakamura will become Executive Vice President and General Manager of Canon U.S.A.’s Imaging Systems Group. Mr. Nakamura succeeds Ryoichi Bamba, who transferred from Canon U.S.A. to Canon Europe. Mr. Nakamura joins Canon U.S.A. from Canon Canada, where he was President and Chief Executive Officer since 2001. Prior to Canon Canada, Mr. Nakamura was President of Canon Mexicana S. de R.L., de C.V. He joined the Canon family in 1984 and has held various planning, marketing and management positions throughout the Company over the years, including positions with the Canon Electronic Typewriter Division and Canon Business Machines, Inc.

Canon 200mm and 800mm telephoto lenses : Canon USA announced the launch of two new telephoto lenses for use with its EOS SLR cameras: the EF200mm f/2L IS USM and the EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM, the world's longest focal length lens with an Optical Image Stabilizer system. The Company, which exhibited prototypes of the lenses during PhotoPlus Expo in New York last October, is launching them at the PMA tradeshow (booth E101) at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 31 to February 2. The new Canon EF200mm f/2L IS USM is scheduled to be available in April at an estimated retail price of $5,999.00 and the new Canon EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM is scheduled to be available in May for an estimated retail price of $11,999.00.
